Just spent an amazing two hours with the young Prince...his first - TopicsExpress

Just spent an amazing two hours with the young Prince...his first day really being home since returning from Germany...before he arrived, I explained to him that video games/iPod would be an intermittent pastime that I would grant, not a recreation to consume his every waking moment as I have wrongfully allowed it to be. He was sad. Called me back to ask if I was joking, and i explained that I was absolutely not. Told him that he would find his enjoyment in good books the majority of his time now. When he got home, I had him read to me from the journal he kept while away this summer. He got very emotional as memories re-surfaced of how much he missed me and missed hearing my voice. I rubbed his back, held him and comforted him...then he continued reading. After he finished reading the last page to me, I asked him questions about his experience...he was a bit reticent at first, until he realized he had my UNDIVIDED attention, and then everything came pouring out. Once he ran out of things to tell, I told him that he would be reading The Green Mile and asked if he would read the first chapter to me. He HAPPILY said yes, and then surprised me when he came to the first word that he didnt understand - asked if he could get pen and paper before continuing. He then stopped at each word he didnt know the definition for, asked me the meaning, and then wrote the words down. He enjoyed the first chapter of The Green Mile and then I told him that I would like for him to do his best to commit the words to memory after creating and writing sentences for each word. He is in there doing everything without complaint and very happy to hear the praises about how beautifully he read and how wonderful I think it is that he took it upon himself to learn these new words. We are going to hit Subway after this, because thats what the young king wants, and he will have it. Theres a new day in this household, because I have been slipping. Better time management, on my part, is at the core so that he can be the very best him possible, and it can only happen with me being PRESENT, not just in the same room.
