Just spent some time in the workshop playing with the radial arm - TopicsExpress

Just spent some time in the workshop playing with the radial arm saw and the drill press! I cut all these pieces to make a wooden louver or flap to prevent the reverse thermo - syphoning (cool draft from the bottom outlet vent of the solar air heater that can occur when the fans are not running, like at nighttime). The flap part is made of a light weight, cedar shingle. The simple, easy-swinging hinge design is just two tiny nails with the heads cut off, inserted in tiny, drilled holes on either side of the top of the shingle (bigger holes here for easy swinging) and framework (smaller holes to fit the nail in tightly and glue it in place). I havent glued it all together yet, (the pictures of it is it all just layed out on my coffee table) but it is a good start! Ill see if it works another day! (I plan to possibly use high heat resistant EPDM rubber sealing strips on the bottom layer edges (inside) that meet the flap to help prevent any draft at all, and possibly a tiny magnet to hold it closed snugly, but weak enough that as soon as the Okapi fans come on low speed, the flap swings open easily... Will see if it works with testing, after I put it all together!)
