Just started reading Elijah Walds definitive look at the African-American insult game of casting aspersions on the opponents heritage, The Dozens: A History of Raps Mama. Ive just reached the part where he discusses the name Dozens and talks about the symbology of twelve. Ive added somewhat to his list - 12 hours on a clock face, twelve months in a year, twelve inches to a foot, twelve apostles, twelve signs of the Zodiac, the Roman Law of the 12 Tables, the chromatic scale, dodecaphony, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Twelve Gates to the City, and the classic Christmas-themed cumulative folk song Children Go Where I Send Thee, which should have twelve verses, but is often sung with fewer. The version I want to post doesnt seem to be on YT, and many that are on YT are truncated. So what does this have to the Dozens? Thats speculative, and I need to ponder on it more. Right now, Im thinking about really important things, such as why do eggs come by the dozen?
