Just stumbled on a Final Word clip Sidney Lumet (one of my heroes) recorded for the NY TIMES. He made his share of clinkers, yeah, but he made an extraordinary series of films about cops and crooks in NY -- including a masterpiece called PRINCE OF THE CITY (co-written by my late friend, Jay Presson Allen) -- and an adaptation of THE SEA GULL featuring performances by Vanessa Redgrave and James Mason as good as any on film. His last major picture -- BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOURE DEAD (maybe my favorite performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman) -- was one of his best.
