Just stumbled onto the GIT facebook page, and enjoyed browsing all the posts. My parents, Diane Elliott & George Eiermann, grew up in Toulon. My dads great grandfather was Pethuel Parrish (Parish), who helped settle Stark County. My grandma, Alta Elliott, was the head cook at the grade school for many, many years. And, of all the crazy things, I ended up getting my very first teaching job in Toulon (2nd grade 1979-1983)! I have such fond memories of spending summers at grandmas house on Miller St. - porch sitting (and learning to embroider) because it was too hot for anything else. The root beer stand across the street from the Methodist Church. The Friday night band concerts when grandma would get us all dolled up just to show us off proudly. The old A & P store with the creaky wooden floor. I still can remember the taste of the water and the smell of Toulon - most likely just the coal bin at grandmas house LOL. Walking down Miller St. to the school playground - with the crooked sidewalks due to tree roots growing. Ah, Toulon was Mayberry for me!
