Just submitted my last final, and Im finally getting around to posting this video of a talk I gave to the DivEx program. DivEx brings students of color and other folks from underrepresented backgrounds on a 3-day, all expense paid trip to Harvard to encourage them to see Harvard Divinity School as something that is possible for them. Its hard to believe it was just 3 years ago when I visited HDS through DivEx. Here are somethings Ive learned: - What does it mean when we say yes in the face of our fear, especially fear that has been generated from very real experiences of internalized and externalized oppression? - How defining what is possible for ourselves and rejecting traditional narratives can be revolutionary - More than academics, my time at Harvard has taught me how to both navigate structures of power and maintain my integrity - To never underestimate my own, others, or even an institutions capacity to grow and change
