Just the other day former President Moi turned 90 years old and many newspapers wrote how wonderful and great leader he was. They talked about children drinking free milk. They did not say that KCC used to employ very many Kenyans who were later sent home without pay because Moi regime bankrupted and then grabbed the Kenya Cooperative Creameries. During Moi Era, many thriving enterprises like Kenya Railways, Kenya Posts and Telecommunications, Kenya Power and Lighting Company, Kenya National Assurance Company, Kenya Meat Commission, National Bank, Uplands Bacon Factory, Rivatex, Kenya Planters Cooperative Union, the Coffee Board — were sent to bankruptcy. The roads that were once tarmacked disappeared. Public parks and forests were stolen by Moi henchmen. His regime was supported by praise singers. He was called by supporters like Peter Oloo Aringo , as the Prince of Peace which ironically he maintained by using his supporters to humiliate WangarI Maathai and destroying lives of people like Kenneth Matiba and Charles Rubia. However Moi always put on a façade of a kindly, generous, pious leader who went to church every Sunday. He gave himself to the poor but the poor were oblivious to the reason that he had made them that poor. He was president when no other opinion was tolerated. Phillip Ochieng run Kenya Times which was a forum to castigate and abuse other people who had different opinion than Mois. We never miss such characters who do praises for leaders who take people nowhere. Characters who defend this county government knowing very well we are headed nowhere. As long as they get to be in the entourage, they will sing praises to the high man.
