Just thinking-- As I was pondering how big a gap there lies between the sinner and Holy God, I remembered those pictures of folks dragging their crosses to this chasm, laying them down, and walking across. While it is true access to God comes only through Christs work on the cross, I wonder if it isnt a bit prideful to think we have the strength to drag that cross or even the courage to walk it across the gap. In my mind, I see myself crumpled at the foot of the cross, wretched and weeping at my sorrowful state and weakened with longing to rise and walk toward God. With the authority and compassion only the Son of God could possess, Jesus lifts me up into His arms and carries me across the impassable gap. He gently sets me on my feet, places His arm around my shoulders, and turns me to face His Heavenly Father saying, Father, this one is Mine. And, I hear my own tiny voice whisper, Yes, oh yes, I am Yours. Then, His Holy Spirit wraps me within His embrace where I find peace, strength, and joy forever in the presence of my Holy God. With Jesus, the impossible was made possible. Nothing can separate us, now!
