Just three more places to visit today before heading into Missouri. The first is the Mid-West Motel, listed as being on U.S. 66 and By-Pass 40 in Mitchell, IL. The back of the card indicates its 18 miles from downtown St. Louis and 3 miles east of the Chain of Rocks Bridge. It offered electric heat and U.S. Kaylon foam mattresses and it was ultra modern. Theres no Street View shot from the road in front of the motel but this one from a freeway entrance ramp shows that its still around but has been heavily remodeled - https://goo.gl/maps/90ANx. Another old motel on Bypass 66 is the Land of Lincoln Motel, 3220 West Chain of Rocks Road in Granite City. This card has a copyright date of 1965 and indicates the motel has 36 new rooms with a restaurant and service station nearby. Its not hard to recognize the motel as it stands today as being the Land of Lincoln but it has a new name - https://goo.gl/maps/DngMN. The last two cards come from the Rainbo Court Motel, 5280 Collinsville Road in East St. Louis. This stretch of road was one of the many different alignments of Route 66 as it headed toward the Mississippi River. The first card mentions 30 units; the second card 35 units and an adjoining restaurant. The second card has a date code of 1967. Theres been some remodeling to the property and a name change but its still around today as the Royal Relax Inn - https://goo.gl/maps/TYE1m. Goodbye to Route 66 in Illinois.
