Just to clear up a point. Way back when I was a youngun I was told it was a healthy American males duty to serve six years of his life to the government. To be sure I didnt think that was fair, me being a spoiled kid and all, but never did it occur to me I would join the service expecting any sort of gratitude from the population at large. It was just something we were supposed to do. Duty? I guess, but more like a requirement to me. I never expected anyone to be proud of me because I did what I thought needed to be done. After I got out I got on with my life. Only in later years did I reconnect with the guys from my old outfits, them being the best friends Ive ever had. Now it seems were supposed to revere anyone who joins the military service, probably because its all volunteer now, not an expected requirement as it was in my day. I just cant get on that bandwagon. Military service experience more often than not creates a better person overall. Good for them. Really. The current crop of servicemen and women have been thrown into this Mideast rathole which does indeed get sympathy from me. Empathy. Most believe they are doing their duty. Bless them all.
