Just to give everyone an update & to put to rest the speculation that AQHA was turning a blind eye to the situation: This was a letter sent to one of our page members. I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT AQHA, NRHA & NCHA ALL WENT ABOVE & BEYOND TO ASSIST IN GETTING THESE HORSES TO SAFETY & WERE ACTUALLY INSTRUMENTAL IN GETTING THEM REMOVED! That being said; No more bashing. YESTERDAY: The American Quarter Horse Association is aware of the case in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in which horses have been reported to be found dead and/or are malnourished from alleged abuse. The welfare of the American Quarter Horse is paramount, and AQHA has very specific rules regarding inhumane treatment of animals. Part of AQHA’s mission statement addresses that the American Quarter Horse shall be treated humanely, with dignity, respect and compassion at all times. (Read the full mission statement.) AQHA has reached out to the sheriff’s department in Colorado Springs to gather more information and to offer assistance. The Association has also heard from many caring owners and members willing to assist in the matter. For now, the matter is in the hands of the authorities. AQHA will continue to monitor the situation and assist when and where it can. Founded in 1940, the American Quarter Horse Association is the largest equine breed organization in the world. With headquarters in Amarillo, Texas, AQHA has a membership of more than 270,000 people in 86 countries and has registered more than five million horses in 95 countries.
