Just to keep the record straight: there have been numerous posts that lay the problem of U.S. military bases being gun-free zones at the feet of Bill Clinton. That appears to be erroneous. It appears this “gun-free zone” type policy can actually be traced back to Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 5210.56, signed into effect in February 1992 by Donald J. Atwood, deputy secretary of defense under President George H.W. Bush. It was re-issued under Clinton, and again in 2011 under Obama, but would appear to stem from the Administration of Bush, Sr. Thanks to my friend Katherine Hoyt for pointing that out.
