Just to keep you all updated... I visited the Traffic Police HQ yesterday in connection with another RTI Appeal hearing. While I was there I met with a few other senior officials and showed them this Group and the 600+ images that have been uploaded by all of you. They were shocked at the level of public participation. I politely asked them if they wanted me to (waste time, effort.... and paper) and TAKE PRINTS of all these 600+ pics and submit it to them as a formal complaint! They said there was no need for that and have deputed 2 officers to join this Group and take action on this. When I asked what action had they taken on the first lots of pics that I printed and sent them, they said that out of the 55, they had already sent out Notices to 29 which were within the city jurisdiction and were following up with the officers of the other jurisdictions which are out of the city. They have asked me for hi-res images of around 14 pics as they couldnt figure out the Numbers. To sum up the 2 hours that I spent there... Yes, they have taken some action. Yes, henceforth, they will be more proactive. Pushing Govt officials to do their jobs is by no means an easy task... esp if being done by an ordinary citizen with no political or organizational backing... Theyre just not used to it! These things take time, effort and perseverance and Im willing to invest all three! So, as I said... lets see how far we can take this :-)
