Just to make everybody aware. All Doctors and Midwives should be aware that Immediate Cord Clamping is an intervention, which has NO evidence to support it. They should know as it isnt rocket science but most dont as they are not aware and Immediate Cord Clamping is the way they have been taught. In the majority of births across the developed world (and we have imported bad practice into the developing world too) Immediate Cord Clamping is still very routine practice. Many national and international guidelines over the years recommended immediate cord clamping, NICE still do!! Even in hospitals where the guidelines recommend a delay in clamping (1-3+ minutes) I would still ask everybody to make sure your birth carer is informed that you want Delayed Cord Clamping. Practice in all areas and between each care giver vary. Change is very hard to implement despite evidence, hence our movement and campaigning. We need to keep going until all the guidelines and all practitioners practice delayed cord clamping. (optimal cord clamping, premature amputation or whatever anybody would like to call it.) Lets get it stopped....together.
