Just to provide a little information since there seems to be misinformation regarding our product. We never sacrifice our roots for money. We in fact purchased the company so it would not be swallowed up into a conglomerate but remain true to Mr. Pattersons dream, a family run business, producing a syrup without equal. The last change to our recipe was in 1971, cane syrup became harder and harder to get reliably and Mr. Pattersons son incorporated the use of a blended corn syrup. The product formerly known as corn syrup 42 and is now known as HFCS 42. There is a little irony in the fact that HFCS 42 actually has LESS fructose than that of regular sugar. Sugar and HFCS both have similar structures , many health professionals agree that whether it’s sugar from corn or sugar from cane, your body can’t tell the difference—your body metabolizes both the same way. High fructose corn syrup has been used for almost fifty years and the International Food Information Council agrees that, “HFCS is a useful ingredient because of its sweetness and ability to blend with other food and beverage ingredients.” High fructose corn syrup contains no artificial or synthetic ingredients or color additives. It meets the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s requirements for use of the term “natural.” So why all the negative press? In fact, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released data in 2013 showing that consumption of high fructose corn syrup has actually been declining while obesity and diabetes rates continued to rise. Many other factors contribute to rising obesity levels including changes in lifestyle, diet and exercise and are unrelated to HFCS. The artificial sweetener industry was also behind a great deal of the negative press hoping to increase market share but in reality are producing products that actually have been shown to disrupt the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar, causing metabolic changes that can be a precursor to diabetes. The campaign against HFCS is without merit and basically has gone away. Choose natural sugars over synthetic and always consume in moderation.
