Just to put it out there, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, ending the Cold War and mostly eliminating the threat of World War III erupting in Europe, has contributed considerably to world peace, human liberty and advancement, and consequently world prosperity. Meanwhile, Russia under Putin has continued to be a black hole of oppression, disinformatzia, and support for the worst regimes on the planet in an ongoing effort to maintain and build power by any and all means. While Western countries have reduced military spending and forces under arms in this hopeful era, Russia maintains a million man Amy and had not been shy about using it. Putin himself has said the greatest tragedy of the late twentieth century was the breakup of the Soviet Union. Based on the above, I believe it is in the vital interest of the United States to contain Russia, punish its expansionist forays, and push the boundaries of the free world (NATO and the EU) right up to its borders including Ukraine. The costs we pay now would be far exceeded by what would be required in the future going up against a powerful and aggressive reconstituted Russian Empire.
