Just to share..... In Africa, Cancer kills more than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. In fact almost all people who get cancer die of it, unlike HIV. However, epidemiologic data linking etiological factors to increased incidence is lacking; and insights of the complex causation of this malignancy are unfortunately absent; which makes down-staging by primary prevention or early detection next to impossible. A multitude of new therapy modalities have been serendipitously discovered, which include endocavitary and microwave irradiation of non-metastised tumors to hinder loco-regional relapse as well as stereotactic radiotherapy of tiny brain tumours during radiosurgery, prostate brachytherapy using Iridium seeds, whole body irradiation(palliative rather than curative)..blah blah blah.. All these sophisticated modalities are however based on cutting edge & pricy technology and the computational dosimetry is highly demanding. Africans tend to ignore these issues because "they are too complicated and are for whites/European countries" yet become so hopeless when disease strikes.
