Just to share something I thought of today. For those of you (like me) that get your initial mix balances in mono, pan your sources to roughly where they will end up in the mix BEFORE you start monitoring and balancing in mono. The reason being that panning affects the level of the signal, as dictated by whatever pan law your DAW is using, so if you leave panning until after youve got you nicely balanced mono mix, itll mess with the balances youve worked so hard to establish... But if you do this beforehand and THEN flip your monitoring to mono, the gain changes from panning have already taken place and so it wont screw with your balances when you come back into stereo :D Let me know your thoughts on this... (P.s. Id rather this didnt become a thread about whether you should do part of a mix in mono or not, just a discussion about this technique for those who DO mix in mono)
