Just under 5000 read last weeks update so hoping to top that this week! I am now officially ON LEAVE!!! Last duty is to update this page and then the Blackberry is being switched off for a week, This week started on Saturday with a very productive mtg with some of the 2020 Strategy team leaders. We are now working up a progress report which will be sent out to everyone in the ACO so you can see what progress has been made and where we are still working hard to enhance the air cadet and volunteer experience. On Monday, I set off at OMG hour for a CCF inspection at Bradfield College in Reading. It was a great day, very wet and muddy, but cadets and staff were having a fine time and it was good to see such commitment from the College staff to delivering quality cadet activities. Left there to go to Amport House to join new and seasoned chaplains for their annual Convention. Had a lovely evening with this inspiring group of volunteers and it was nice to spend some time in such lovely surroundings. Set off the next morning to RAF Northolt and parked myself at the RHQ to do some essential admin catch up. Worked hard all day and cleared loads of routine paperwork which underpins so much of what we do. The next day I was supposed to do another CCF inspection, attend the Youth and Cadet Council mtg, and present the Earl Roberts Trophy to Tower Hamlets Sqn. However, the best laid plans went awry as I was poorly overnight and had to return home instead. My thanks to SE TEST Off, Sqn Ldr Keeton, for standing in as the Inspecting Officer at Rutlish School CCF and to the cadets and staff at TH, for being so understanding. I will rearrange another date to visit you. I understand the YCC mtg with the Minister went well, too, so AMP clearly didnt need me, albeit we had discussed the agenda well in advance. I also had to cry off the Industry Forum mtg in Derby on Thursday but RC SNI stepped in as Chairman at short notice and all went well in my absence, proving that no one is indispensable! Thankfully, I felt much better today and have been back in harness at the HQ, clearing the decks so that I could still go on leave with a clear conscience. I cant begin to describe just how much work is going on at the moment - there are strategic reviews aplenty, lots of work on the 2020 Strategy, important Total Safety development activity, plans for ACO Drill and Band competitions, fundraising ideas, and exciting plans for 2016. We are shaping future policy for our volunteers and looking at aspects of the cadet syllabus. On that front, the feedback from the Cadet Strategy Day is all but complete and that will also be shared with you all very soon. Some great ideas coming from the senior cadets and whilst we may not be able to deliver them all, the concept of hosting senior cadet events to inform our Strategy has been proven to be an unqualified success. I am now going to switch off for a week and enjoy some quality time with my son and husband. Will be back before you know it!
