Just used Apple Pay to buy some groceries at Whole - TopicsExpress

Just used Apple Pay to buy some groceries at Whole Paycheck. Since I setup my cards the other day and the banks already verified the cards (takes up to 24 hours for your cards to show up in Apple Pay to be used), it was painless to use in the store. Heres generally how it works: open up Passbook, select the credit/debit card you want to use, move the phone near the terminal, and then you are prompted for your fingerprint to authorize the transaction (oooh, how Mark-Of-The-Beast !! ;)) But here is where Im a little weirded out. After you have done this, then you have to either enter your debit PIN or choose Credit and press the green button. Uhm, then how exactly is this making things easier for any of us? It would still have been quicker to pull out the card, swipe it, and enter my PIN. Certainly its more secure, but its not necessarily more convenient. Now you can leave all your cards at home, you say to me. But thats not true since a lot of places do not yet support Apple Pay, and probably wont for the foreseeable future. You dont want to get stuck at a mom and pop coffee shop without a way to buy your precious latte, right? So you are stuck carrying them around still. But, while it seems more secure with their randomly generated card numbers, I still had to enter my PIN, which could be compromised by a hacked terminal or a video camera watching me type it. So, thats no good. I was under the impression that this system would be less steps, but its not.
