Just want to report back from todays retreat at the ESC to hopefully clear up any misconceptions and provide some framework. This post is strictly my opinion. It was an excellent session today. I could not make it last night because of a family function. We were divided into four tables and broke into other groups throughout the day. Really, this was not anything about egos and arguing. In fact, it was more of a continuation of what transpired in January and how we can continue to move forward as a district. Information created in January was looked at again. People gave opinions and insight into what, if any, changes should be made as far as board procedures. Many of us in the room felt it would be important to continue to meet hopefully monthly to put our plans together, and quarterly with the facilitator. First, we have to put on paper the difference between policy, procedures and philosophy. We all have to understand the differences in our roles between board, leadership council, superintendent and building administrators. Some people have different opinions on who should be doing what. We need to clarify these issues, and I believe we made good progress in that area. The only way we will continue to make progress is if we commit to seeing this through, throughout the year. Thats why many of us feel its great to meet monthly to put the plan into action. It does help to have an outside facilitator who can help guide us through the process.We are doing that. Not everyone will agree on the final product or how we get there. But this builds the framework or the base.
