Just want to say it was a very sad day in the Matsu Valley. At 8:38am friday morning one of my fellow school bus drivers was approaching a student stop in the dark and very icy road conditions. He had his ambers going and approaching the stop. There was an oncoming vehicle getting ready to slow down for the stop and the young 10 year old girl decided to run across the road before the bus even was able to put on his reds, she did not see the truck and the truck hit her going between 15-25 mph. The bus driver saw the whole thing as well as some children. The bus driver did an amazing job by keeping calm as much as he could and called into dipatch then jumped off the bus to check on her. Our two safety officers were amazing and did more then just their jobs. They held it together while she was life flighted to anchorage hospital. The little girl now is in critical condition but has survived. She is a foster child and needs many prayers. Please just say some prayers for all involved and just know our job we do everyday is a dangerous job and unfortunate accidents happen. Do not look to BLAME anyone in this situation nobody is at fault. Just a little girl excited to go to school. Also say a prayer for the driver of the POV he has to live with this the rest of his life.
