Just want to toss this out for my college football peeps and get your thoughts. The Jameis Winston situation at FSU is like nothing I have ever seen in CFB. Obviously, the first concern goes to the victim in the assault. Truly it does, and football is a secondary concern in such a situation. But I have to admit that as the legal process plays out, I am thinking about the football implications. You have a likely Heisman winner leading a team to the BCS championship game. The BCS teams will be determined in a little over two weeks. The Heisman announcement is three weeks away. Authorities in Florida are trying to decide if Winston should be charged. The speed of this may be upped by the fact that Winston left some swimmers behind for DNA tests, though his attorney claims it was consensual (and by the way, what college kid can afford a high-profile attorney? I couldnt). Do the Heisman voters bail on Winston, and who wins if they do? What if FSU makes the BCS game, and then Winston is charged? He will be automatically suspended per school rules, sending a team to the BCS without their best player. Strange days in CFB.
