Just wanted to get this posted before the last night of the West Texas Fair and Rodeo. I am so thankful for the young bull rider from Louisiana that said Thank you for feeding us and may yall be blessed! Then got his guitar and played some beautiful music to end the craziest night ever! After such a cold (54) misty night, that is the reason I keep doing this. Can only imagine what this last night is going to bring, but we are ready! Thanks go to John Barbee, Bill Black, Calvin Cox, Eric Pechacek for taking over the reins for Jody and Bo to do the cooking! God Bless yall for helping us feed those hungry cowboys, cowgirls, Rodeo/Taylor County Expo Center staff and the Buetler crew since Wednesday! Thanks to Ben E. Keith and Coors for providing much needed refreshment! Thanks to Brandi Elkins for helping when she could... those cowboys enjoyed her young fresh face serving ;-). To Mary Kelley for those awesome pecan muffins! The biggest hit last night! And mostly to my 2 amigos, partners in crime, Martha Cherry Pechacek and Gayla Trojcak for standing in the 103 degree temp to serve hamburgers, and then in 54 degree weather, freezing their tails off in rain and mist to serve fried catfish! I couldnt do this without yalls undying love and help!!!! Jody and Bo started this years ago, just to get a hot meal in some of the people that came and it has grown to unbelievable proportions. From starting out feeding 25-30 people to over 175, I dont know how we do it on such a shoestring budget. A lot of our own heart, soul and money go into it as well, but its well known that most working Rodeo cowboys dont have a lot so at least they get one hot meal in good olé Abilene! Well better get back to the cornbread cooking b/c the last night is coming up fast! May everyone have a great last night and again, so, so blessed for being such a part of a great tradition!
