Just wanted to give an update on Chevys appt with the Urologist - TopicsExpress

Just wanted to give an update on Chevys appt with the Urologist yesterday....however once again, unknowns :( Overall, he said Chevys test results were pretty good considering his level of SB. He had only a tiny bit of reflux into his kidneys so for the moment he is not asking us to catheterize him and he was not given medication as there is no indication of UTI. That is the good news! The downside is that Chevy doesnt appear to have the ability to control his bladder or bowels, so he will need some type of intervention eventually i.e.: surgery, catheterizations and medication. He wants us to learn how to use catheters in a few months when he has further testing called Urodynamics. It sounds like this involves testing the muscles around the bowels and bladder. (Please feel free to correct or elaborate my friends who are familiar with this). It will involve catheters in both his bowel and bladder and flushing water with contrast through and taking more x ray images as well as measuring pressure and muscle contractions. That will be in 3 months time. (Not excited for that one). He also said Chevys reproductive abilities will be questionable. For now, we are grateful for no catheters and no meds. Its hard not to have anxiety regarding the future but as the doctor mentioned we cant predict health issues in any child, with SB or not. And we also know, it could be worse. Grateful for his current health! Thanks all for the encouraging words!
