Just wanted to make a post here after seeing lots of new ferrents - TopicsExpress

Just wanted to make a post here after seeing lots of new ferrents asking about diet. I want to make sure they understand that feeding kibble is not a bad thing, if its a decent kind. I know many feed raw and like the results and I also know its a perfectly healthy thing for a ferret. But not all ferrets HAVE to be on raw. I personally would love to eat only organic foods and nothing processed, but its impossible from a cost and practical standpoint. The same goes for raw vs kibble. I wont defend Marshall and their ferret mill operation, but they also do a fairly decent job of providing mostly healthy products for ferrets. While Marshalls kibble may not be the very best kibble available, its a decent product. And more imprtant, they are the ONLY kibble producer that sells food in large quanities and for a decent price which is appreciated by rescues and shelters. I would love to see Wysongs or Zupreems available in 35 or 50 pound bags for less than 50$ but they dont or wont do it. Weasel Way is funded solely from my pocket, so money makes a difference. Even if I relied on donations, which I cant and dont, there is no way it would begin to cover the cost of the very high quality kibble in quantity. Our kids wont touch raw, we;ve tried, but I refuse to starve them into eating it and also remember, most of our residents have been handed from person to person, are of varying ages and many were on horrible diets such as cheap store brand cat food or worse. So them eating Marshalls kibble is a huge step above it and weve had no issues healthwise from feeding it. I congratulate those who feed raw and Im sure their ferrets are in the pink of health, but all of ours eat Marshalls kibble and unless they came in with health issues, they are sleek, fat and happy. So dont try and frighten or shame new owners about kibble. Its been fed for years with decent results, so its certainly not awful or harmful.
