Just wanted to share a story that happened to my wifes horse today - TopicsExpress

Just wanted to share a story that happened to my wifes horse today , because I think there is important advice to share with everyone . Some or most may have already done or do this but for those who do not or have never considered it ,you may find it helpful and useful to prevent a serious injury to your horse . let me rewind 2 years . We are both pretty new to horses and had little to no experience in working with them. We were very fortunate to have experienced horseman for friends . One in particular came over to our lease property several days a week and help us work on our ground work and training. One thing he stressed to us was to use ropes and make the horse stand still while you wrap the ropes through and around their feet and legs . So we did this several times a week for just 5 or 10 mins at a time . We used all sorts of different types and sizes of ropes . After some time the horses just came to see it as Normal and now they dont even flinch or bat an eye when the rope gets near their feet or legs. Fast forward to this afternoon. We arrived at our lease to put out a bail of hay for our girls . Upon arrival we entered the pasture to see my wifes mare standing almost paralysed with wide eyes . It seems she got the pagewire gate open to the hay storage and the gate fell over folding over on itself . She had attemted to walk over it and got both front legs in the wire . Lucky the spaces in the wire are quite large so she did not get tangled or caught up in it , just standing in it . She had probably been there close to an hour as our friends had been there not to long before that and everything was fine . The point is she just stood and waited for help to arrive and did not panic . Had she panicked I can safley say this could have had an horrible and potentially expensive ending . All for a few hours a month of repeated training with ropes she just stood and waited for help and we had a very happy ending and a horse who escaped injury ,not so much as a small scrape . Hopefully our story can help others have as happy an ending as we did .
