Just wanted to thank everyone who came to the meeting today! We got an unprecedented amount of business out of the way AND had special guest speaker Dr. Skyla Herod from Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society talk about the organization. Some stuff that got done: -Approval of 3 different working budgets to last us through the rest of the semester -Chose first choice and backup campsites for the end of the semester summer camping trip and approved an advance for Nan to pay for the site fees -Approved final piece of the scholarship puzzle; $875 in club scholarships will be presented at the scholarship ceremony in May alongside about 400 other scholarship recipients (well open up the application window soon with nice templates for each scholarhip category) -The club received in depth info about Tri-Beta, and had a chance to ask important questions concerning affiliation Dr. Herod will take her report (she was blown away by the caliber of faculty like Nan and the active club membership) to the National level in Tri-Beta and they will ultimately vote on whether or not to approve of our affiliation, so we hope that comes to fruition. Even if we dont wind up being affiliated, I want to thank Holly Tavris for spending the past 4-5 months (maybe more?) of her time to make Skylas visit a reality...the site visit was the last step toward affiliation on our part; we have only to be approved or denied at this point. I would also like to recognize the rest of the wonderful team I work with: Marissa Nicole Mihin for spending over 4 hours researching the best possible options for the highly anticipated end of the semester summer camping trip; Alec Cervi for always buying refreshments and food for the meetings and manning the projector; James Stover for organizing the coming alumni panel and for being awesome in general; Ashley Kim for working closely with Oakland Zoo and securing us special events; Patti Matus for leading the help desk and never backing down to take on other responsibilities; and Sam Hart for her informative ICC reports to the club, and her club reports to the ICC itself. Thanks to everyone for making this a great semester so far!
