Just watched a very good, but very strange Laurel & hardy movie, - TopicsExpress

Just watched a very good, but very strange Laurel & hardy movie, BABES IN TOYLAND. Released in 1934, it also starred Charlotte Henry and Henry Brandon. Apparently Hal Roach and Walt Disney were golfing buddies, and Walt allowed Hal to use some Disney music (Whos Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?) and images (Mickey Mouse). And its obvious they were trying for the kid market with the movie, but WOW, the characters like the Cat & the Mouse, The Three Pigs, the stop animation Wooden Soliders, all very sureal. Worth a watch, especially at Christmas. It is B&W, so little kids will probably loose interest. It was colorized in in 1991, and again in 2006 (better technology), so kids would enjoy those versions. Jim also showed some calssic cartoons, all Christmas related, a 1933 Popeye (always my favorite) Seasins Greetinks!, a great Tom & Jerry and others. A very nice afternoon.
