Just watched the series finale of ROSEANNE. Say What you will about the final sere arson and the lottery win, but the series finale always gets me and hits me square in the gut... The final scene of the entire cast around the dining room table is perfect. A perfect display of the family we create around us and cultivate. It is perfect in how as the camera pans around with the narration, we watch each of the characters slow move from who Roseanne created them to be, to who she tells us they really are.. All seamlessly. That final monologue about the power of creativity to help us compel with the difficulty of our daily lives, to escape and hope, to imagine greater things... Deep, substantive, meaningful, accurate... And then the final snap back to reality... The house they way it always was, the blue collar widow in the empty house, alone on her couch, silent and still.. Just.. Done.
