Just went to the El Segundo Museum of Art (ESMOA) to check out the graff show Scratch featuring prominent artists in the LA graffiti scene. The entire walls of the museum are covered in graff by these talented and legendary artists (SABER, DEFER, CRE8, EYEONE and more)-its pretty astounding to walk in and be surrounded by visuals in that setting. I continue to be impressed by this museum that exists in my little town. The museum seems open to exploring a range of styles in art as well as offering free community events. Tonight they were showing two movies and also held Q and A with many of the graff artists featured in the film. I missed the first film, but the second was an INCREDIBLE story about a legendary LA graff artist named TEMPT who was diagnosed with ALS and lost the ability to move anything or speak...all he can do is breathe and use his eyes...but his mind and creative spirit still thrive. In the film, an extraordinary group of crew members, friends and family come together to help create this amazing devise which enables TEMPT to draw using the movement of his eyes! I was blown away at not only the technology but the willpower involved in TEMPT and the man (whos name escapes me) who really pushed this devise to be created from nothing. If you have an interest in the LA graff scene, it would please you to make a trip to El Segundo to check the show out! Not sure if they will be showing the films again, or if another Q and A with the artists will be created, but its worth it to check out the walls as well as the cases that hold old lettering from rare books owned by the Getty-some of which date back to the 16th century (one is a book on perspective by Durer dating back to 1525!) and black graff books.
