Just when you think it cant get any worse--it always does. The Veterans who came to the County Commission meeting yesterday morning were turned away and then they might as well have been smacked in the face after the stunt one infamous commissioner pulled! Veterans were gathered out front in support of Mr. James Patterson, Maury Countys Veterans Affair Department Head, to ask for Mr.. Patterson to get more hours making him a full time employee. Although he gives the hours unselfishly anyway going way beyond the call of duty in helping veterans county wide, little did the Veterans know they were about to muddy the waters on a scheme in the making for quite a while--thus the real reason they were turned away. Because this issue wasnt on the agenda, Commissioner B told them to come back to the Budget committee meeting next month. She didnt bother to tell them she was going to ask for a waiver of the rules--on not 1 issue but 2, that would have allowed them to speak their piece. Instead the evil web was spun voting in a $10 thousand dollar pay raise for their pet Animal Shelter Director moving her from a pay grade level 9, $35,131 a year to a pay grade 12 which is $44,512 a year. Also worth mentioning is even though she did not have the 4 year degree required for this position, the HR Director said she had the equivalent--a 2 year Vet tech degree! No, I am not kidding! Dr Do Nothing chimed in threatening a discrimination law suit if we didnt vote the raise. Only 4 Commissioners voted against this absurdity and that was Burkhalter, Dickey, Shackelford, and myself. On top of this nice going away present another gift was handed over to the Budget Director. She cut her own self a 10 thousand dollar check for back pay cause she too got voted in a 10 thousand dollar pay raise, going from $69,726 a year to $79,352 a year ! WAKE UP Maury County voters! No matter how much we try to change for the better and spend your tax dollars wisely, the only way to stop it is to quit voting in elected officials who are only self serving with personal agendas. The Veterans and Mr. Patterson never stood a chance yesterday --trumped by the significant pay raises for the Animal Shelter and Budget Director! Again-before you vote in this primary, Be informed--research your candidates voting records--make your vote count for the good of MC--vote for those who genuinely want to move this county forward and reward the people who actually deserve a raise! Please keep this in mind too---how sad that our law enforcement probably dont even make $44,512 a year and they put their lives on the line daily!
