Just who do you "identify" with? Is it a celebrity? A specific group? A specific label? Maybe you behave a certain way because you took some personality test in some magazine and it told you, you were prone to acting this way. Yet, the Bible gives us a different view. It says that if we are in Christ, the old has passed away and the new has come. It says that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy generation, a people belonging to God. It says that we are the sons and daughters of the Living God. It says we are Gods workmanship. Verses like these and many, many others point to the fact that if we profess Christ then our identity should be in Him. Our personality centers around Him. Our actions take their cue from Him. When we do this we will begin to realize, that "whatever were gains to us we now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, we consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus our Lord, for whose sake we have lost all things. We consider them garbage, that we may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of our own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. We want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead." (Phil. 3:7-11)
