Just witnessed the most surreal natural phenomena of my life. - TopicsExpress

Just witnessed the most surreal natural phenomena of my life. Today I descended into the þrihnúkagígur volcano, the only magma chamber of a volcano in the WORLD that you can tour inside of. Usually magma chambers collapse in on themselves but this one miraculously preserved itself into an underground shell of various ethereal colors. The descent was unreal, You find yourself being lowered down into a chamber of dripping colors, each rock formation looking as if it were human, as if one was looking at the clouds and trying to decipher which cumulous formations resembled most closely ones own self. Once at the bottom, I looked up and realized I was entirely encased in something synonymous to the earths lungs. Dormant, breathless, the walls around me looked as if they were the result of Magmas decision to create rock art before it passed further into the earth; Sulfurous stones mixed into red Iron surfaces, and at the bottom as I trailed my fingers along the wet yellow rocks, my hands became sulfur too. Vibrant streaks of yellow stained my fingertips like the dandelions I used to rub along my skin as a child. It felt comfortable, like it was meant to be there. I wanted to take this sulfurous pigment and paint myself with it. An intimate endeavor. I never wanted to leave this chamber, it felt just as comfortable as being surrounded by the mountains did. I was housed in a beautiful display of the Earths most hidden, personal art. I felt like I was tapping inside of its internal self. Again, I was alive.
