Just witnessed the relationship between power and knowledge as mentioned by Foucault. Yet the story that I am writing here is not the illustration of knowledge as power. It is rather a brand-power theory. This story took place in the Starbucks by Sacramentos Amtrak Station. The young lady cashier (YLC): It is $ 4 (the price of small cup of Chay Tea Late). Me: Ok (and I opened my wallet and handed my ATM card). YLC: Are you going to Berkeley? Me: I am studying at the GTU, an affiliate school of UC Berkeley. YLC: Woww (she was glancingly looked at my wallet and saw my Harvard card)…Did you also go to Harvard? Me: I did my Pre-Doctoral Program at Harvard, I got a one academic year scholarship to finish up my dissertation at Harvard Kennedy School. YLC: Woww..waitttt and you are a Fulbright scholar (I am caring my Fulbright computer bag). Me: Yes, I am. YLC: Woww ( and she dropped a cup of somebody else coffee from her hand). Often times big brand of any school could dazzling people. Yet not all students who experience the intellectual atmosphere the good schools would be a great scholars. Ah I dont think I will a great scholar. Rather, I just want to finish my dissertation as soon as possible and go home spending my whole time with Jessica and Jennica. I love and miss them so very much!
