Taxpayers wont have to foot the bill for Gillette Road window fix by Kristy Smorol Posted: 09.02.2011 at 4:03 PM Gillette Road Middle School / photo by Alex Dunbar CICERO -- Parents in the North Syracuse Central School District are getting some good news about a recent problem at Gillette Road Middle School. Taxpayers will not have to pay to fix a problem with the window installation. The district discovered last month that a problem with the exterior walls could allow the windows to break in high winds. District officials say taxpayers already paid for the initial installation during renovations. Wayne Bleau, the Assistant Superintendent for Management, says taxpayers wont have to pay twice. T he firm that put in the windows wrong will put up the money to pay for repairs. Friday afternoon, parents got together for an informational meeting about the problem. It was a small crowd, but the district says thats expected since it was short notice. Parents were also told about the districts plan for protecting students. If wind speeds are expected to be 50 miles per hour or higher, students will be moved to interior areas without windows, like the gymnasium or the auditorium. After the problem is fixed, the windows should be stable in winds up to 100 miles per hour.
