Justice Minister David Ford has published the second annual Action Plan on Human Trafficking and Exploitation for Northern Ireland. David Ford said: “Human trafficking and offences of slavery, servitude and forced labour are dreadful crimes which devalue the human spirit. Through this action plan I want to strengthen Northern Ireland’s defences against these crimes and send out a strong message that Northern Ireland will not tolerate human trafficking or slavery in any form.” The action plan identifies priority areas and sets out a range of challenging actions that the Department of Justice and its partners will drive forward during 2014-15. The actions fall under three strategic aims: strengthening law enforcement; protecting and supporting victims; and preventing human trafficking and exploitation. The Minister continued: “The needs of victims are at the centre of this action plan. I want to ensure that survivors of human trafficking receive appropriate care and support to enable them to overcome the trauma they have faced and to help them to rebuild their lives.” For more information download the plan at: goo.gl/24qkvh or visit nidirect.gov.uk/human-trafficking #StopHumanTrafficking
