Justice for Salwa is Justice for All is a campaign driven by the memory of Salwa Bugaighis, a revolutionary leader and human rights lawyer, an extraordinary woman and a beloved friend of Karama, who was assassinated on election day in June 2014. The Justice for Salwa campaign seeks the support of both the regional and international community to put pressure on regional governments to hold perpetrators of violence against women in the Arab region to account. With your support we will raise awareness of the ongoing struggle that millions of women across the Arab region face, and will work to ensure that women are no longer silenced or sidelined. The strength of the Justice for Salwa campaign depends on the support of women and men across the world. Be part of a call to end violence and exclusion against women in the Arab Region and help us build a platform for women’s voices to be heard. Salwa was a unique woman in a country where women are considered an exception. She devoted her life advocating for democracy and defending rights and was killed while she was exercising that democracy and casting her vote in the elections, and all the death threats she received did not discourage her from doing so. Campaign Goals Driven by the legacy of Salwa Bugaighis, the campaign continues to fight for change in the Arab region. The campaign will ask local and international communities to raise their voice in support of the implementation of processes and laws to drive progress on human, civil and women’s rights across the Arab region. Specifically, the campaign calls for: Accountability on the part of the international community, including sanctions against governments for allowing impunity in the case of such crimes. Support for human rights defenders from the international community and from national governments to protect them from violence and criminalize attacks and threats made against them. Women’s inclusion in peace-building processes, including peace and reconciliation dialogues and committees, peacekeeping forces. Disarmament and demobilization of militias. Women’s political leadership and participation supported by new constitutions/ laws, including quotas.
