Justice for all! My mum voted YES – she is 77 years old. My aunt voted YES – she is 80 years old. Most of their friends voted YES. They are all in the same age group. Yes, THAT age group which let the YES side down in the referendum! They had very little to no access to the internet or social media, yet they felt, like the rest of us, that Scotland should and would be better being an independent country. There has been much criticism about this age group, but it is unfair to stereotype the whole age group! I have come across people on social media who have been offensive and insulting to the whole of the older generation. It is true that the many let us down, but please remember there are still many who voted YES and they should be thanked and made to feel as proud as the rest of us YES voters for doing so. In fact, the older YES voters should be given even more credit, as they based their YES vote more on their individual values and beliefs, not so much on information available to them, as we all know how biased both the papers and television channels were! We must keep them on our side and let them know we are proud of them too. They helped us achieve over 1.6 million YES votes and we must not forget that. As for the older NO voters, then we must try to engage with them somehow, through chat, discussion, helping them out with odd jobs, etc. We must try to get them on our side and encourage them to realise that independence would be a change, but a change for the better and they should have nothing to fear. I would like to finish by thanking each and every one of the YES voters who are considered ‘elderly’ and let’s all stick together! We are the people power and our efforts will one day lead us to victory in an independent Scotland! Three cheers for the YES older generation! Keep up the great work!
