Justin Scoggins: Outside the Octagon Most of us have gotten to know the fighters we love through the epic fights they put on for us. Time and time again we recall why we love the fighters we do and discover new ones after catching incredible fights we wernt prepared to see. Legends in the sport, as well as the new breed swiftly rising, garner so much attention from the cards we all enjoy. Most fans are pulled into this amazing sport from the action, which one can see is quite the fierce pull. What a lot of fans, old and new, do not get to experience is the person being the guard or gloves. Sure, we get little sound byte interviews and hype promos, but rarely do we get a chance to just chat and laugh with the fighters we have come to love. A few UFC vets have put out books and such, but todays media scrum is mostly filled with conversation geared towards fights that happened or are coming up. I mean, have you not wondered whether or not Chuck Liddell was excited about the release of GTA5? Or if Renan Barao prefers margerine or butter? How about if Anderson Silva owns all of Segals films? These are the underlying questions that add humility and humanity to the wargods we follow. Recently, this writer had the opportunity to interview exciting newcomer to the UFC Justin Tank Scoggins in such a way. Anyone who knows Justin, follows him online, or catches him at shows knows that he is one of the most approachable and good spirited participants in the sport. Hell, the whole family Scoggins simply eminates an aura of friendliness. I originally went into the interview with a mind to dig into his thoughts on chashing his dreams, ufc fights, work out routines, and other fighting-oriented questions. However, the more I came to research the more I realized that the media has been all over the topic, and I was betting Justin had been asked and answered the same 30 questions since being signed last month. I decided instead to interview the man in a way that shows fans the things I know about Justin, his family, and outlook on life. The man he is has as much to do with him taking a huge step in his dream as does his fighting skills. Furthermore, I felt that his kindness and humour would be refreshing in a MMA media landscape filled with the same grey and standard questions. To know the man is to appreciate the man in all his endeavors. So today, I give you a laid back interview with one of the best newcomers to the UFC that promises to connect you with a truly awesome fighter without having to say a single word about actual fighting.
