Jyväskylä and Oulu draw Vaskikello Series The coveted sauna ladle will spend another year in Oulu after JCC and OCC drew the third annual Vaskikello Series on Saturday with two matches a piece. After winning the toss and choosing to field, Jyväskylä produced a series lead Saturday morning with one of its best bowling and fielding displays of the season. Despite a brave first over, OCC batsmen were put on defence against a wide-ranging bowling attack – including four maidens – backed up with focused fielding. However, with only 86 runs to defend, Oulu generated pressure of its own taking seven wickets and dragging the contest into the 18th over before JCC eventually claimed victory. After lunch it was Oulu that won the toss and elected to bat, posting 174 for 8 - more than double the runs from their morning session. Although JCC succeeded in keeping the wicket, Oulu restricted the run rate with line and length bowling and sensible fielding. Even with wickets in hand and some big shots in the final overs, Jyväskylä was simply too far off target to catch the tourists. Having won the series last year, OCC only needed a draw this year to retain the ladle. Congratulation to both teams for the fabulous cricket! See you next summer!
