K A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Arthur Kennedy says he is not convinced that Nana Akufo-Addo has learnt his lessons. “I am not convinced that Akufo-Addo has learnt his lessons …I believe that as far as the party’s interest is concerned, we need to be very careful about taking back into the fray the same candidate who has lost elections twice for us,” he said. Nana Akufo-Addo announced he will contest the NPP’s primaries to lead the party in the 2016 elections on Thursday. But speaking on Eyewitness News, Dr. Kennedy stated that it was imperative for Nana Akufo - Addo to prove to both the party and Ghanaians that he had grown and learnt from his mistakes. He added that the onus lies on Akufo-Addo to cause a remarkable change in the party saying “as far as I am concerned, Akufo- Addo has a burden on himself to persuade us that it will be different.” According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo would have performed better if he had avoided unnecessary comments such as “all die be die” in the past. “I think life is a growth process so I believe that the case for retaining him is a difficult one, but I have an open mind and I’m waiting for that case to be made,” he added. He stressed that it was unethical for party officers to take sides by declaring their support for Akufo-Addo. “It is a blatant disregard for the party’s customs and traditions for party officers, who are supposed to be mutual referees to declare their support for one of the candidates when they don’t even know the field,” he asserted.
