K-Town Calling #44: Ice Bucket goes to Kollywood 25:08:2014 The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has gone viral, with many actors of the various industries taking to social networks with videos of them challenging colleagues, friends and family before emptying a bucket of water with ice cubes over themselves. In Kollywood, it was the trendy Hansika who first drenched herself. Kollywoods Priyamani followed suit. In America, whilst even the ex-presidents have become part of the trend, actress/producer Pamela Anderson has refused to have any part in the challenge due to ALS research involving tests on animals. She instead challenged the researchers to put a stop to this. Canadian singer, Grimes, has also turned-down the challenge for the same reason. It will be interesting to see how Trisha will respond given her known participation in the fight for animal rights. ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, one of five motor-neuron diseases thats also known as Charcot Disease or Lou Gehrigs disease. The disease leads to a loss of muscle mass eventually prohibiting the sufferer from initiating any voluntary actions however, their senses remain functional.
