K....so I got a letter from BCBS...which is my private pay health insurance carrier. When I got my health insurance originally...I was paying 445.00 a month...with NO annual wellness visits...it always was applied to my annual 5000.00 deductible(which I never met). This was pre Obamacare. I had not even used my Insurance the entire year...when I got a letter saying my rates would increase to 640.00 a month...simply because they could. I was told it was a normal rate increase for my age regardless of my health!!! When I searched for an alternative....I was told by several Ins Co. that they would not Insure me because I was 2 lbs over their limit for my height...regardless I was on NO MEDS....healthy etc! I continued my search thru a broker friend and several months later...found BCBS...with a LOWER DEDUCTIBLE. ...4 well visits per year covered at 100%....no pre existing limits...and my rates were LOWER at 340.00 a month....rather than the 445 or proposed 640 and better coverage! I have paid less out of pocket this year than I ever have before. My rates will be increasing as my letter states...but only 20.00 a month after Jan 2014...same coverage...same deductible. This annual increase is less than its ever increased before.
