K100,000 boost Source: The National, Thursday September 4th, 2014 THE Papua New Guinea Palais’ preparation for the Oceania Championships in Noosa, Australia, was given a K100,000 boost last week. The funding was courtesy of the team’s co-sponsor, Heritage Oil Limited. General manager Jenni Lean said the K100,000 given was part of a K200,000 commitment for this year. She said the first K100,000 was presented in January. The presentation was the second part of the commitment. A Kiwi by origin – and a devoted All Blacks fan who has witnessed first-hand what rugby can do to nation’s development – Lean said her firm taking on the role of a sponsor was part of its aim to help develop the women of the country. “We believe in the development of young women in PNG and what better way to do that than through the sport of rugby,” Lean said. “Rugby can be used as a tool to develop them physically as well as mentally into better, stronger, independent women.” “The sport has proven itself as a vehicle for unification and it can do that in a nation as diverse as PNG.” An elated Palais coach Elenoa Kunatuba said the team’s aim of making the top three finishers has been bolstered and the team was looking forward to making that a reality. “The funds will help us take our preparations up a notch and equip us for the meet,” Kunatuba said. “We are ranked fifth at the moment but the girls are prepping-up really well and we should be able to make it into the top three.”
