KADUNA STATE GOVERNMENT TO BUILD HOUSES FOR TEACHERS Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State disclosed plans by the state government to build houses for teachers in rural areas to encourage working in such areas. Speaking at the commissioning of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) ultra modern Teachers’ House in Kaduna, he said the plan would soon be actualised. Yero thanked the teachers for their efforts at both primary and secondary school levels saying, “Presently, the public schools are gradually regaining their lost glory and this goes with your efforts, dedication and selfless service. Recently, a primary school pupil won a world-wide competition. There are also students in the secondary school that are performing well. In spite of the challenges of examination failure in the country, Kaduna State came first in the North and third in Nigeria in this year’s WAEC examinations. All these were achieved through the effort of the teachers and parents alike.” “On our own part, government has decided to change the way things are done right from primary to secondary school level. We have decided to have an ‘old school arrangement’ where we will look at the entire school, renovate and fence it,” he said. The state chairman of the NUT, Comrade Audu T. Amba, thanked the governor for the recent payment of teachers’ promotions and annual increment for 2010/2011 and the payment of teachers’ benefits, which according to him was the first time.
