Ms. Letlet Davao, a friend of mine from San Jose, Antique, shared in my Facebook timeline several photographs of Margiorie Alba, a clerk of the Antique provincial government who started a hunger strike at the Evelio B. Javier Plaza last August 21, 2014, to protest the refusal of provincial officials to allow her to return to her work despite an order from the Civil Service Commission (CSC). What is this? President Aquino’s defiance of the Supreme Court has rubbed on to local government officials across the country, like in Antique? What will happen now to the orders and directives of duly-constituted authorities, especially of a Constitutional body like the CSC, if local officials can simply disregard them? Where would the poor and lowly, like Alba, turn to, to get justice for themselves? -ooo- WOMAN TELLS PNOY, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: No wonder then that a frail woman like Flora Pineda, a native of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan but who is at present a resident of FTI, Taguig City, decided to throw all caution to the wind and, armed with a loaded Caliber 45 pistol, stormed Malacanang Friday, August 22, 2014, and demanded Aquino to step down and stop seeking a term extension. Reports said Pineda was not suffering from any mental problem, nor was she delusional, when elements of the Presidential Security Group, Aquino’s security officers, placed her under arrest. She was sane, and in full possession of her faculties. As reports would have it, Pineda apparently could no longer stomach the suffering of poor Filipinos, many of whom will eat only if they manage to salvage leftovers from garbage dumps, under Aquino’s presidency. It would appear that she knew the dangers she was getting into by entering the Palace with a loaded gun. Despite the possible harm to her life, however, Pineda did what she had to do, to deliver the message: the Filipino people have had enough of Aquino’s inability or ineptness to deliver on his campaign promises, causing the hardships being undergone by them now, and it is time for him to step down, and stop thinking about holding on to power. -ooo- FLORA PINEDA, “HINDI KA NAG-IISA”: I am sure spin doctors or propaganda experts from the Office of the President will say that Pineda’s outburst is an isolated case and in no way represents the sentiments of the rest of the populace. They would be dead wrong if they will say that, for the truth is that, Pineda may have physically carried out the siege of Malacanang all by her lonesome, but she is certainly not alone in her demands for Aquino to step down. If I am simply to use as a gauge the text messages Vic Somintac and I are getting in our Mondays to Fridays 6 a.m. program “Tambalang Batas at Somintac” at Radyo Agila’s DZEC 1062 kHz, there could be no doubt at all that Aquino has lost, and no longer enjoys, the trust of the Filipino people, so that a great number of them already want him out of the presidency even now. Surely, Flora Pineda is not alone in her disgust of Aquino and his government, nor in her overriding desire to kick him out of the Palace anytime soon, and in preventing Aquino to even have a Charter change to enable him to run again. I am sure, many Filipinos are now saying, “Flora Pineda, hindi ka nag-iisa” (you are not alone). -ooo- “IT IS BETTER TO LIGHT JUST ONE LITTLE CANDLE”: As I pondered on Flora Pineda’s bravery, heroism, and big heart, I couldn’t help hearing in my spirit the melody of the song which goes this way: “It is better to light, just one little candle, than to stumble in the dark. Better far that we light, just one little candle, all we need is a tiny spark.” Indeed, the tiny spark has been lit, and it would do well for Aquino and his cohorts to heed it.
