KAMRIO PRIMARY SCHOOL IN BARINGO EAST SIT FOR ITS FIRST KCPE IN TWO DECADES By #BCN Nichola Kiptoon & Joshua Chesire. One of the aspects of Millennium Development Goal number 2 in education requires countries to provide a complete primary education for all by the end of 2015 or no later than 2015. This is further entrenched in the children’s act of 2001 that free and compulsory education for all children is a basic right. However, this is very different from the aforementioned in Kamrio Primary School in Kamurio Sub location despite the government efforts of free primary education. Kamrio Primary, the only fully fetched, started over 16 years ago, has never attained its full growth. The main reasons behind this sad fact are multi faceted from remoteness of the area in terms of road inaccessibility, rugged topography, cultural practices, under staffing and failure of the different government regimes in addressing the education of this nomadic pastoral community. Provision of education to a generation enhances unparalleled economic and social transformation as noted by the immediate former UN Secretary General Kofi Anan that, “Study after study has taught us that there is no tool for development more effective than the education of girls. No other policy is likely to raise economic productivity, lower infant and maternal mortality, improve nutrition and promote health including the prevention of HIV/AIDS. No other policy is as powerful as in increasing the chances of education for the next generation.” The situation of this school has attracted a number of organizations attention, among them being Mamlaka Hill Chapel, a Nairobi based church which has been supporting the school and the community for the last three years. The church has so far helped the school to have a better learning environment by providing, teaching aids, employing teachers, sponsoring healthcare missionaries, preaching to them the christian religion and also drilling water. Having attained the registration of their first candidate class in this years Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examination, Mamlaka Hill Chapel through their outreach and Missionary team decided to start an initiative to fully sponsor the 16 registered candidtes into their secondary education. On this note therefore, the church is organizing a Half Marathon themed Running For Dreams whose proceeds will go towards enabling the 16 KCPE candidates go on with their education in secondary school level. The inaugural Kamurio half marathon is a day’s event scheduled for the 28th Nov. 2014 at Kamrio Primary School. While Kamurio half marathon is a day’s event, the organizers are in an open dialogue with the community members on the importance of education and are seeking to offer a platform where they share their general views on education and that of the girl child, the challenges they encounter in pursuit of education and the way forward. Mamlaka Hill chapel also seeks to collaborate with the community, school, Africa Gospel church, the government and other like-minded organizations in transforming live in this area through education. Join Mamlaka Hill Chapel in supporting these 16 candidates. Register NOW and RUN FOR DREAMS. Pokots Countrywide wishes the best of SUCCESS to the 16 candidates; 12 Boys and 4 girls.
