KANINI KEGA REGRETS SUPPORTING NEW CONSTITUTION.......... Kieni MP, Kanini Kega, has apologized to the church for supporting the new constitution during the 2010 referendum. Kega said he never knew the document had ‘a lot of errors that need audit’. “The new constitution is meant to unite Kenyans but it creates a lot of freedom which is being abused. I apologize to the church because they saw the errors but we ignored and campaigned for it during 2010 referendum,” said Kega. Speaking during a funeral service of two sisters who were among the 28 victims of Mandera bus attack, Kega decried the loopholes that grant the police boss (Inspector General) security of tenure as the President does not have powers to sack him. “I prefer the old system where the president was the Commander in Chief of all forces including police,” said Kega. He pointed an accusing finger at the Inspector General of police, David Kimaiyo over the increased cases of insecurity in the country, adding that he and his two deputies should have resigned and admit failure. The MP asked President Kenyatta to reshuffle his cabinet as he further questioned the role of his advisors. “The President now has around 30 special advisors whose work we dont know. Am not aware whether he has an advisor in charge of security matters,” said Kega while addressing the mourners at Mwichuiri Primary School grounds. Nyeri Senator, Mutahi Kagwe and Kipipiri MP, Samuel Gichigi who were also in attendance echoed his sentiments. Gichigi lashed out at the judiciary for cancelling recruitment of 10 000 police officers that had been recruited mid this year. The court declared the recruitment null and void and ordered for a fresh recruitment. “Now 10 000 police officers would be preparing to complete studies. But the courts are taking us backwards. We need more police officers to enhance security,” said Gichigi. Senator Kagwe said Al Shabaab militants want to create instability in Kenya based on religious lines. “The judiciary should not make a ruling that people will be duty bound to ignore or dismiss,” said Kagwe while supporting Gichigi.
