KARACHI: Meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held today (Thursday) in Karachi for sighting Shawwal crescent while the zonal committees will hold meetings at their respective locations, Geo News reported. Chairman of the Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehma n will preside the meeting. Meteorological and other concerned departments will provide technical assistance to the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Muslims throughout the world celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on first of Shawwal. Earlier, DG Met Office Arif Mehmood said that Eid moon will become visible in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan. He said it was necessary for the moon to attain the age of 41 hours to become visible. The moon will grow older than 41 hours on August 8 (today). However, DG Met said that difficulty may be faced in sighting the moon due to the sky being partially cloudy or overcast. On Wednesday, unlike in the previous years, the unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal committee of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan announced to convene its meeting for sighting the Shawwaal moon on Thursday, thus paving the way for possible one Eid across the country. However, in North Waziristan, Mohmand Agency, parts of Khyber Agency, Bannu and shabqadar districts, the local ulema and elders announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated today. Afghan refugees, residing in camps and in cities in the province, are also celebrating Eid today. Traditionally, Afghan refugees celebrate Eid along with their brethren in Afghanistan and also in accordance with moon-sighting in Saudi Arabia. Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Western countries and Japan are celebrating Eid today
